Vi presenterar en metod för målinriktad forntida DNA-sekvens hämtning, som vi använde för att rekonstruera den kompletta mitokondriella kartläggningen av fem Neandertal individer. Jämförelse av dessa sekvenser med dagens människor tyder på att Neandertalare hade en långsiktigt låg effektiv populationsstorlek.
