Zoogdierhuid bevat een divers scala aan structuren - zoals haarfollikels en zenuwuiteinden - die onderscheidend patronen van ruimtelijke organisatie vertonen. Het analyseren van de huid als een platte berg maakt gebruik van de 2-dimensionale geometrie van dit weefsel tot volledige dikte van hoge-resolutie afbeeldingen van de huid structuren te produceren.
