Een geïntegreerde suite van beeldvormende technieken is toegepast op poliep morfologie en weefselstructuur in het Caribisch gebied koralen Montastraea annularis en M. te bepalen faveolata. Fluorescentie, serieblok gezicht, en twee-foton confocale laser scanning microscopie hebben lobbige structuur, poliep muren, en de geschatte chromatophore en zoöxanthellen dichtheid en uitkeringen geïdentificeerd.
