Syntetisk biologi gjør prosjektering av proteiner med enestående egenskaper med co-translational innsetting av ikke-kanoniske aminosyrer. Her, presenterte vi hvordan en spectrally rød-skiftet variant av en GFP-type fluorophore med romanen fluorescens spektroskopiske egenskaper, kalt "gold" fluoriserende protein (GdFP), er produsert i E. coli via seleksjonspress inkorporering (SPI).
