Single-fiber optagelse er en effektiv elektrofysiologisk teknik, der gælder for de centrale og perifere nervesystemer. Sammen med forberedelsen af intakt DRG med vedlagte iskiasnerven nerve, er mekanismen for lednings svigt undersøgt. Begge protokoller forbedre forståelsen af det perifere nervesystem forhold med smerte.
