Curcumin er en ideell fluoroforen for merking og bildebehandling av amyloid beta protein plaketter i hjernevevet på grunn av sin fortrinnsrett binding til amyloid beta protein så vel som dens strukturelle likheter med andre tradisjonelle amyloid bindende fargestoffer. Den kan brukes til å merke og bilde amyloid beta protein plaketter mer effektivt og rimelig enn tradisjonelle metoder.
