Hier beschreiben wir einen S. pneumoniae Serotyp 1 Stamm 519/43, der genetisch verändert werden kann, indem er seine Fähigkeit nutzt, DNA und ein Suizid-Plasmid auf natürliche Weise zu erwerben. Als Prinzipienbeweis wurde eine isogene Mutante im Pneumolysin-Gen (Ply) hergestellt.
