Denne protokol beskriver en metode til at undersøge socialt hierarki i en rottemodel. Rotter udfører en kompleks dykker-for-mad opgave, hvor de danner et særskilt hierarki i henhold til deres vilje til at dykke under vandet og svømme for at få en fødevare pellet. Denne metode bruges til at forstå beslutningstagning og sociale relationer blandt meget sociale dyr i små grupper.
