Een gedetailleerd protocol wordt gepresenteerd voor het bereiden van de bacteriostatische diamide masarimycine, een kleine molecuul sonde die de groei van Bacillus subtilis en Streptococcus pneumoniae remt door zich te richten op de afbraak van de celwand. De toepassing ervan als chemische sonde wordt aangetoond in synergie/antagonisme assays en morfologische studies met B. subtilis en S. pneumoniae.
