Synovialvæskeanalyse under overført, polarisert og kompensert lysmikroskopi brukes til å evaluere den inflammatoriske eller ikke-inflammatoriske naturen til en prøve gjennom enkle trinn. Det er spesielt nyttig i slitasjegikt for å oppdage kalsiumkrystaller og identifisere en mer alvorlig delmengde av slitasjegikt.
