Mitofagi er den primære mekanisme for mitokondrie kvalitetskontrol. Evalueringen af mitophagy in vivo hindres imidlertid af manglen på pålidelige kvantitative assays. Præsenteret her er en protokol til observation af mitofagi i levende celler ved hjælp af et cellepermeant grøn-fluorescerende mitokondrier farvestof og et rød-fluorescerende lysosomfarvestof.
