Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), een epitheliale chloride kanaal, is gemeld om te communiceren met verschillende eiwitten en belangrijke cellulaire processen te reguleren, onder wie de CFTR PDZ motief-gemedieerde interacties zijn goed gedocumenteerd.
