Tumores humanos transplantados em ratos imunodeficientes são ferramentas valiosas para o estudo da biologia do câncer. Protocolos específicos para gerar xenoenxertos subcutâneos e intra-hepáticos a partir de células de carcinoma hepatocelular humano ou fragmentos do tumor são descritos. A regeneração hepática induzida por hepatectomia parcial em ratos destinatário é apresentado como uma estratégia para facilitar o enxerto intra-hepática.
