Denne protokol beskriver anvendelsen af kombineret nær-infrarødt fluorescerende (NIRF) billedbehandling og mikro-computertomografi (microCT) til visualisering cerebral tromboemboli. Denne teknik tillader kvantificering af trombe byrde og evolution. Den NIRF imaging teknik visualiserer fluorescensmærkede blodprop i udskårne hjerne, mens microCT teknik visualiserer blodprop inde levende dyr ved hjælp af guld-nanopartikler.
