Abbiamo puntato a sviluppare un protocollo riproducibile per isolare e mantenere a lungo termine colture di cellule umane papille gustative fungiformi. Le cellule di papille fungiformi umana ottenuti con la biopsia sono stati correttamente mantenuti in coltura per più di otto passaggi (12 mesi) senza perdita di vitalità.
