Voor toekomstige toepassingen als een patch om gedeeltelijke scheuren van de voorste kruisband (VKB) te herstellen, werden menselijke ACL afgeleide cellen geïsoleerd uit weefsel verkregen tijdens reconstructieve procedures, uitgebreid in vitro en geteeld op tissue engineered steigers. Cellulaire adhesie en morfologie werd vervolgens uitgevoerd om biocompatibiliteit bevestigen op steiger oppervlak.
