A infecção humana por Entamoeba histolytica leva a amebíase, uma das principais causas de diarréia em países tropicais. A infecção é iniciada pelo agente patogénico com as células epiteliais do intestino, provocando a abertura dos contactos célula-célula e, consequentemente, a diarreia, por vezes, seguido por uma infecção do fígado. Este artigo fornece um modelo para avaliar as interações patógeno-hospedeiro iniciais para melhorar a nossa compreensão da amebíase patogênese.
