Het beschreven hydroponische cocultivatiesysteem ondersteunt intacte planten met metalen maasschermen en cocultivateert ze met bacteriën. Plantweefsel, bacteriën en gescheiden moleculen kunnen vervolgens afzonderlijk worden geoogst voor stroomafwaartse analyses, waarbij tegelijkertijd wordt toegelaten dat de moleculaire reacties van zowel plantaardige hosts als interactieve microben of microbiomen worden onderzocht.
