Recombinant BDNF met een Avi sequentie (BDNFAvi) wordt op een kosteneffectieve manier geproduceerd in HEK293 cellen en wordt gezuiverd door affiniteitschromatografie. BDNFavi wordt dan direct mono-biotinylated met het enzym BirA in een buis. BDNFavi en mono-biotinylated BDNFavi behouden hun biologische activiteit in vergelijking met commercieel verkrijgbaar BDNF.
