Vi beskriver trinene til perkutan implantation af intra-aortaballonpumpen (IABP), en mekanisk kredsløbsstøtteanordning. Det virker ved modpulsering, oppustning ved diastolens begyndelse, forøgelse af diastolisk aortatryk og forbedring af koronar blodgennemstrømning og systemisk perfusion og tømning før systol, hvilket reducerer venstre ventrikulær efterbelastning.
