Apresentamos um protocolo para caracterizar eletrofisilogicamente fotopigmentações bie estáveis: (i) explorando os deslocamentos de carga dentro das moléculas de fotopigment após a absorção de fótons e sua enorme quantidade nos fotorreceptores, e (ii) explorando as diferenças de absorção-espectros dos estados de fotopigmento de rhodopsina e metarhodopsina. Esses protocolos são úteis para rastrear mutações que afetam sistemas de fotopigment biestabilidade.
