Presentamos un protocolo para caracterizar electrofisiológicamente los fotopigmentos biestables: (i) explotar los desplazamientos de carga dentro de las moléculas de fotopigmento después de la absorción de fotones y su enorme cantidad en los fotorreceptores, y (ii) explotar las diferencias de espectros de absorción de los estados de fotopigmento de rodopsina y metarhodopsina. Estos protocolos son útiles para detectar mutaciones que afectan a los sistemas de fotopigmento biestables.
