Protokollet visar en metod för att undersöka rumslig korrelation mellan de presynaptiska terminalerna, postsynaptiska receptorerna och perisynaptiska Schwann-celler i råttamediala gastrocnemiusmuskeln med hjälp av fluorescerande immunohistokemi med olika biomarkörer, nämligen neurofilament 200, vesikulär acetylkolintransportör, alfa-bungarotoxin och S100.
