Genetische associaties blijven vaak onverklaarbare op een functioneel niveau. Deze methode heeft tot doel het effect van de fenotype-geassocieerde genetische markers te beoordelen op gen-expressie door het analyseren van cellen heterozygoot voor getranscribeerd SNPs. De technologie maakt het mogelijk nauwkeurig te meten door middel van MALDI-TOF massaspectrometrie om allel-specifieke primer extension producten te kwantificeren.
