På grund af enkelheden af kirurgi og robust adfærdsmæssige mål, kronisk konstriktion af iskiasnerven er en af de fremtrædende dyremodeller for neuropatisk smerte. Inden for 24 timer efter kirurgi, smerte overfølsomhed etableret og kan måles kvantitativt ved hjælp af en von Frey aesthesiometer (mekanisk test) og plantar analgesi meter (termisk test).
