Ziekte-veroorzakende mutaties in actine kan cytoskelet functie veranderen. Cytoskelet dynamiek worden gekwantificeerd door beeldvorming van fluorescent gelabelde eiwitten met behulp van totale interne fluorescentie microscopie. Als voorbeeld heeft het cytoskelet eiwit Aip1p, lokalisatie en beweging gewijzigd cellen die de mutant actine isovorm, R256H.
