Neural netthinnen av en mus i alderen 8 dager er på toppen av en 4% gelatin blokk. Etter isolering av det fotoreseptoren lag (200 um) ved vibratome, blir fotoreseptorene utsådd etter mekanisk og enzymatisk dissosiasjon for kulturen. Fotoreseptoren sjikt kan brukes til molekylære, biokjemiske analyser eller transplantasjon.
