Den lacrimal kjertel (LG) har to celletyper uttrykker α-glatte muskel utgangen (αSMA): myoepithelial celler (MECs) og pericytes. MECs er av ectodermal opprinnelse, finnes i mange kjertel vev, mens pericytes er vaskulær glatte muskelceller av endodermal opprinnelse. Denne protokollen isolerer MECs og pericytes fra murine LGs.
