Culturing CTCs tillater en dypere funksjonell karakterisering av kreft, gjennom å analyse spesifikke markør uttrykk, og vurdere narkotikaresistens og evnen til å kolonisere leveren blant andre muligheter. Samlet sett kan CTC-kultur være et lovende klinisk verktøy for personlig medisin for å forbedre pasientutfallet.
