Influensa A-virus (IAV) infeksjon aktiverer caspases som spalter vert og virale proteiner, som igjen har pro- og antivirale funksjoner. Ved å bruke inhibitorer, RNA-interferens, stedsrettet mutagenese og western blotting og RT-qPCR-teknikker, ble caspases i infiserte pattedyrceller som spalter vertskortaktin og histondeacetylaser identifisert.
