Influensa A-virus (IAV) -infektion aktiverar de caspaser som klyver värd- och virusproteiner, som i sin tur har pro- och antivirala funktioner. Genom att använda hämmare, RNA-interferens, platsriktad mutagenes och western blotting- och RT-qPCR-tekniker identifierades kaspaser i infekterade däggdjursceller som klyver värdkortaktin och histondeacetylaser.
