In deze studie wordt fluoresceïne-isothiocyanaat-gelabeld (FITC) dextran toegediend aan muizen via orale maagsonde om de intestinale permeabiliteit zowel in vivo als in plasma- en fecale monsters te evalueren. Omdat de darmbarrièrefunctie in veel ziekteprocessen wordt beïnvloed, kan deze directe en kwantitatieve test in verschillende onderzoeksgebieden worden gebruikt.
