Nicole J. De Nisco is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). She earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology in 2007 and a PhD in Molecular Biology in 2013 both at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) from 2014-2018 before starting her laboratory at UTD in October 2018. Current research focuses recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI) as part of an ongoing clinical collaboration with the Department of Urology at UTSW. Dr. De Nisco’s research combines access to clinical samples with techniques from fields of molecular microbiology, cell biology and immunology to discover how both microbe and host contribute to rUTI. Examples of ongoing research include: 1) characterizing the host inflammatory response during rUTI and elucidating its role in recurrence 2) deciphering the virulence mechanisms of clinically-relevant rUTI pathogens 3) understanding the impact of the urinary microbiome on rUTI through metagenomics.
