The device, called a micro OCMFET array, is a flexible, low-cost, and reference-less device, which will enable the monitoring of the electrical and metabolic activities of electroactive cell cultures. This ensures real conditions at the steel-concrete interface, which are crucial to avoid artifacts of laboratory-made samples.
