Michael Korning Sørensen Technical University of Denmark, Department of Energy Conversion and Storage Technical University of Denmark Biography Publications Institution JoVE Articles Michael Korning SørensenPh.D. Student Michael Korning Sørensen is currently working on a Ph.D. project devoted to develop methods to probe and analyse the morphology evolution of organic solar cells as they fabricated. To track the morphology evolution of drying organic solar cells requires physical insight from the atomistic scale (e.g. pi-pi stacking of polymers, ~0.4 Å), to large-scale domain sizes (10-300 nm), and up to macro size of drying films (1 cm). To do this, Michael is optimizing a roll-to-roll coating machine, which mimics an actual organic solar cell fabrication technique for large scale processing, to fit in laboratory- as well as synchrotron X-ray sources. By using this machine in combination with grazing incidence X-ray scattering methods (GISAXS and GIWAXS) will enable him to analyse a full morphology parameter space to obtain an advanced phase diagram in a very short time. The aim of the Ph.D. project is correlate the morphologic structure obtained from GISAXS and GIWAXS experiments and correlate this to solar cell performance and novel molecular dynamics simulations.
