Thomas Duignan Department of Cardiac Surgery Boston Children's Hospital Biography Publications Institution JoVE Articles Thomas Duignan Thomas Duignan is a Medical Device Research Engineer in the Cardiac Surgery Department at Boston Children's Hospital. He received his undergraduate with honors degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway and his masters degree in Medical Device Design at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.During Thomas's training he developed a keen focus on design skills that puts the user at the center of all medical device design to allow for the reliable, consistent and accurate use. As a Medical Device Research Engineer (2017 to 2021) in Dr. McCully’s lab at the Department of Cardiac Surgery, at Boston Children's Hospital, he designed and developed devices for the automation of Mitochondrial Isolation and Ex-Vivo Heart Perfusion. Here, he has also been trained in animal surgery, animal studies, software programming, CAD & FEA modelling, electronic instrumentation and rapid prototyping. Thomas also holds a certificate in Machine Learning from Stanford University.
