Het gebruik van specifieke glycosidases om suikers te verwijderen uit glycoproteïnen, gevolgd door SDS-PAGE is een waardevolle methode om glycan wijzigingen op eiwit-samples te detecteren en is een goede keuze voor de eerste glycobiologie studies. Veranderingen na deglycosylatie kunnen worden gedetecteerd als verschuivingen in gel mobiliteit of door kleuring met glycan gevoelige reagentia.
