As an undergraduate, she completed a senior honors thesis studying tissue-specific RNA interference in the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans. After graduating, she spent a year in the Dr. Scott Alper's Lab at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO as a student researcher, studying the role of vesicular trafficking in the regulation of innate immunity in both C. elegans and mouse macrophages. Amara Seng joined the KUMC MD/PhD program in 2012. Here dissertation work is focused on optimizing engineered regulatory T cells to treat Graft versus Host Disease in the labs of Drs. Thomas Yankee and Mary Markiewicz in the department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology.
