En kombination av tensid washout med 0,9% saltlösning (35 ml/kg kroppsvikt, 37 °C) och hög tidvattenvolym ventilation med låg PEEP för att orsaka måttlig ventilator inducerad lungskada (VILI) resulterar i experimentell akut respiratorisk nöd syndrom (ARDS). Denna metod ger en modell av lungskada med låg/begränsad rekrytbarhet för att studera effekten av olika ventilationsstrategier under längre perioder.
