Het protocol beschrijft een nieuw in vivo muismodel van spinale implantaatinfectie waarbij een roestvrijstalen k-draadimplantaat is geïnfecteerd met bioluminescente Staphylococcus aureus Xen36. De bacteriële belasting wordt longitudinaal gemonitord met bioluminescente beeldvorming en bevestigd met kolonievormende eenheidstellingen na euthanasie.
