Das Protokoll beschreibt ein neuartiges In-vivo-Mausmodell für Wirbelsäulenimplantatinfektionen, bei dem ein K-Draht-Implantat aus Edelstahl mit biolumineszierendem Staphylococcus aureus Xen36 infiziert ist. Die bakterielle Belastung wird longitudinal mit biolumineszierender Bildgebung überwacht und mit koloniebildenden Einheitenzählungen nach Euthanasie bestätigt.
