O protocolo descreve um novo modelo in vivo de infecção de implante espinhal em camundongos, onde um implante de fio k de aço inoxidável é infectado com Staphylococcus aureus Xen36 bioluminescente. A carga bacteriana é monitorada longitudinalmente com imagens bioluminescentes e confirmada com contagens de unidades formadoras de colônias após a eutanásia.
