Denne protokol viser, hvordan man opnår et massespektrometrisk "fingeraftryk" af leukocyt cardiolipin til diagnosticering af Barth syndrom. Vurderingen af forhøjet monolysocardiolipin til cardiolipin-forhold diskriminerer patienter med Barth syndrom fra patienter med kontrol hjertesvigt med 100% følsomhed og specificitet.
