However, expensive equipment and materials, as well as laborious fabrication and handling techniques, are often required. Here, we detail the fabrication protocol of an acrylic microfluidic device for magnetic micro- and nanoparticle-based immunoassays in a low-cost and simple-to-use setting. Chemistry The Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation on the Chemical Bath Deposition of Bis(thiourea) Cadmium Chloride Crystals and the Subsequent CdS Obtention Luis Eduardo Trujillo Villanueva1, Felipe Legorreta García1, Iker Rodrigo Chávez-Urbiola2, Francisco Javier Willars-Rodriguez2, Rafael Ramírez- Bon2, Marius Ramírez-Cardona1, Leticia Esperanza Hernández-Cruz1, Edgar Arturo Chávez-Urbiola3 1Área Académica de Ciencias de la Tierra y Materiales, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, 2Área de Materiales Optoelectrónicos, CINVESTAV-IPN, 3CONACyT-Área Académica de Ciencias de la Tierra y Materiales, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo This article presents a protocol for the synthesis of bis(thiourea) cadmium chloride crystals by chemical bath deposition. Two experiments are described: one aided by ultraviolet light compared to one without ultraviolet light. Medicine Analyzing Beneficial Effects of Nutritional Supplements on Intestinal Epithelial Barrier Functions During Experimental Colitis Hilda Vargas Robles1, Karla Fabiola Castro Ochoa1, Porfirio Nava2, Angélica Silva Olivares3, Mineko Shibayama3, Michael Schnoor1 1Department of Molecular Biomedicine, Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute, 2Department of Physiology, Biophysics and Neurosciences, Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute, 3Department of Infectomics and Molecular Pathogenesis, Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute Current treatments of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) aim at alleviating disease symptoms but may cause severe side effects. Thus, alternative strategies are being investigated in animal colitis models. Here, we explain how the beneficial effects of diet supplements on clinical IBD signs are analyzed in such a colitis model. Engineering A Basic Positron Emission Tomography System Constructed to Locate a Radioactive Source in a Bi-dimensional Space Luis Manuel Montaño-Zetina1, Omar Villalobos-Mora1 1Physics Department, Centro de Investigacion y de Estudios Avanzados del IPN (Cinvestav) We present a simple but well-constructed Positron Emission Tomography (PET) system and elucidate its basic working principles. The goal of this protocol is to guide the user in constructing and testing a simple PET system. This work presents a novel option for the delivery of MSCs from human amniotic membrane (AM-hMSCs) that employs the bovine bone matrix Nukbone (NKB) as a scaffold.
