De test beschrijft een snelle wijze te vroeg biofilmvorming in bacteriën en schimmels te meten. Deze methode maakt gebruik van een microtiterplaat als substraat voor microbiële biofilm en de vorming van biofilm wordt gevisualiseerd met behulp van kristalviolet stam. De test geeft zowel een kwalitatieve of kwantitatieve test voor de vroege biofilmvorming.
