Profylaktisk og terapeutisk vaccination ofte undlader at stimulere stærke immunreaktioner på grund uge dræning af vaccinen til lymfeknuder og dermed dårlig inddragelse af immunceller. Ved direkte injektion af vaccine til lymfeknuder, såkaldt intralymfatisk indsprøjtning, effekten af vaccinen kan være stærkt forbedret, og kan reduceres vaccinedoser.
