Struktureret protokoller er nødvendige for at give svar på forskningsspørgsmål hos kritisk syge patienter. Simpel intensiv pleje undersøgelser (SICS) giver en infrastruktur for gentagne målinger hos kritisk syge patienter herunder klinisk undersøgelse, biokemiske analyser og ultralyd. SICS projekter har specifikt fokus, men strukturen er fleksible til andre undersøgelser.
