Strukturert protokoller er nødvendig å gi svar på problemstillinger i kritisk syke pasienter. Enkel intensivavdelinger studier (SICS) gir en infrastruktur for gjentatte målinger i kritisk syke pasienter inkludert kliniske undersøkelsen, biokjemiske analyse og ultrasonography. SICS prosjekter har spesielt fokus, men strukturen er fleksibel til andre undersøkelser.
