Bu protokol, Barth sendromunun teşhisi için lökosit kardiyolipinin kütle spektrometrik "parmak izinin" nasıl elde edileceğini göstermektedir. Yüksek monolizokardiyolipin-kardiyolipin oranının değerlendirilmesi, Barth sendromlu hastaları %100 duyarlılık ve özgüllüğü olan kontrol kalp yetmezliği hastalarından ayırmaktadır.
