Het orthotopische niertransplantatiemodel bij ratten draagt bij aan het onderzoek naar het mechanisme van renale allograftafstoting. Het huidige model verhoogt de overleving van de ontvangers zonder interferentie met de bloedtoevoer en veneuze reflux van het onderlichaam met behulp van een end-to-end anastomose van nierimplantatie en een end-to-side "tunnel" -methode van ureter-blaasanastomose.
